What happens when the figures in Walter Womacka’s mosaic Our Life (1964) at the Haus des Lehrers break free from their original order? In his performance for BETON Berlin, Constantin Hartenstein develops new relationships, bodies and narratives from the socialist visual programme in public space.
Taking Walter Womacka’s 1964 mosaic Our Life at the Haus des Lehrers as its starting point, BETON Berlin and Constantin Hartenstein develop a site-specific performance in public space. The performers initially reconstruct individual figures and groups from the mosaic. As the performance unfolds, the original order begins to dissolve: bodies leave their positions, roles shift, and new relationships emerge. Heroic gestures lose their clear meaning, family images transform into temporary communities and queer forms of chosen kinship.
The performance takes place in the public space in front of the Haus des Lehrers and can be experienced throughout.
